A day after cyclone vardah Disaster, barreled through Tamilnadu, coastal panchayats Kanchipuram,Chennai&Thiruvallur districts presented a sure of devastation with 43 people killed,50,000 of uprooted trees besides low lying coastal areas reporting heavily water logged. Especially fisher folk's crafts & gears & their livelihood severely affected. By performing community based project, this will be a new avenue for empowering coastal ecosystem, livelihood & also to protect them from any disaster.
Fisher folks is the present targeted 3 coastal districts living at low lying areas, within the range of 100m distance from inter tidal shore(High tide mark) so many fisher folk houses, huts are there and mainly all craft & gears have been kept there.
A major slammed by cyclone vardah are the ecosystem damage through uprooted trees and also livelihood damages. Hence we are now assessing thro Participatory methodology and taking steps to provide different types of plantation (causrina, native trees,mangroves,sand dune plants & salt water plants). This project will help the fisherfolk and slum dwellers in long term needs & will help them rebuild from the tragedy of their livelihood & capacity building promotion on disaster management.
Our NGO is serving for the welfare of coastal community for the past 27 years, More than a decade we are serving with Disaster projects. The"Climate Managers" who are formed the current project will serve in a long time for the welfare of the fisherfolks on disaster.. Thro the promotion of plantation, we are going to plant will make a revival of coastal ecosystem. The project will empower them further to face any future disaster & to overcome the same through additional livelihood practices.
