By Chase Williams | Senior Program Manager, Disaster Response
Thank you - we cannot express our gratitude enough. Your generosity earlier this year has made an important impact on communities across New Zealand affected by Cyclone Gabrielle. The storm caused extensive damage in parts of New Zealand’s North Island.
Your generous contribution to the Cyclone Gabrielle Relief Fund powered a flexible grant to our vetted partners at Community Foundations of New Zealand. Founded in 2003, the organization is the trusted national body that serves all local community foundations across New Zealand. At GlobalGiving, we know and trust that local community foundations are some of the best positioned organizations to truly understand the needs of affected communities. These local foundations are part of the community, have been there for the long term, and will be serving communities after times of disaster and crisis long after the cameras and media attention has unfortunately faded. With support from GlobalGiving, Community Foundations of New Zealand amplified and bolstered the critical response work of its trusted network members, like the Hawke’s Bay Foundation.
Affected families and individuals are getting the support they need from a trusted source in their communities because of you. Thank you.
This fund is no longer accepting donations, and this will be the last fund report of this kind from our team. You can stay connected with our work through Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and our Learn Library, where we regularly share stories about the incredible impact of the powerful GlobalGiving community. If you haven’t already, subscribe to get periodic email updates from our team here. We hope you’ll stay in touch.
With gratitude,
Chase + the GlobalGiving Team

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
