Cyclone Gabrielle has devastated large parts of the North Island in New Zealand. At least five people have been killed after the storm with towns cut off, thousands of people uncontactable, and many more without power. Your donation will go to vetted nonprofits on the front lines of response and recovery.
With many communities affected by the cyclone, including Hawke's Bay, it will take a community-led effort to drive immediate relief and recovery. Based on our experience, GlobalGiving has learned that it is vital to get funds to locally-led nonprofits that can respond to community needs in both the short and long-term.
All donations to the Cyclone Gabrielle Relief Fund will support flood relief and recovery efforts in New Zealand. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. As needs emerge, we will support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the impacted area.
