Medical assistance to rural Venezuelan communities

Medical Outreach Program: Maniapure.

During the execution of CUMIS's last medical and dental outreach program, - successfully carried out in multiple communities of Maniapure, Bolívar State, Venezuela -, 1,548 consultations were offered in the fields of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Otorhinolaryngology, Dentistry and Oral Surgery, Bioanalysis and Psychology, attending 1,195 patients, out of which, 48.12% (n 565) were adults and the other 51.88% (n 630) were pediatric patients. Of these patients, the distribution by sex corresponded to 59.94% female patients and 40.06% male patients.

After said consultations, CUMIS was able to offer treatment for the most frequently found pathologies in children and older adults. Regarding the latter, the provision of adequate coverage in the treatment of chronic diseases was granted.

The attendance by consultation corresponded to:

Pediatrics: 429 patients

Dermathology: 171 patients

Obstetrics and Ginecology: 158 patients

Internal Medicine: 350 patients

Otolaryngology: 39 patients

In the dental area, 401 patients were attended, among different specialties: general dentistry, pediatric dentristy, oral surgery and maxillofacial surgery. The distribution of attended patients was: 59.4% (n 238) adults and 40.6% (163) pediatric patients.

In order to make a sustainable change through health promotion, more than 1,500 condoms were distributed during sexual and reproductive health workshops. In the same way, CUMIS held out psychoeducational workshops and lectures to 388 attendees, regarding prevention of violence, mental health, positive parenting, protection of children and identification of emotions, accounting for a total of 1,799 beneficiaries.

Each patient and each visited community represents an opportunity to build the country that we ultimately desire to have. Because, at CUMIS, we are strong advocates and believers of the imminent potential that exists within our nation, Venezuela. The sum of every small effort will bear its fruits in a non-distant future, and with this opportunity, this will absolutely not be the exception.

Medical Outreach Program: Wonken.

Our last medical-dental outreach program was held in Wonken, Bolivar State, Venezuela; where more than 1000consultations were made from 8 different specialties: Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Dentistry and Oral Surgery, Bioanalysis, and Psychology.

Once again, we count on the support of the greatest physicians, dentists, bioanalysts, and psychologists, accompanied by students of medicine, dentistry, and psychology.

In the medical area, a total of 506 patients were assisted, of whom 44,46% (n=225) were adults and 55,13% (n=279) were pediatric patients (children and adolescents). Similarly, of these patients, the distribution by sex corresponded 61,66% (n=312) female patients and 38,33% (n=194) male patients.

The attendance by consultation corresponded to:

• Pediatrics: 206 patients.

• Internal Medicine: 99 patients.

• Dermatology: 121 patients.

• Obstetrics & Gynecology: 109 patients.

• Contraceptive consultation: 63 patients.

In the dental area, 182 patients were assisted, among the different specialties: general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, and maxillofacial surgery. The distribution of attended patients was: 83 adults (46,5%) and 99 children (54,4%).

In the area of Psychology, 42 consultations were offered focused on Psychological First Aid. In addition, psychoeducational workshops and talks were given to almost 960 people, on the prevention of domestic violence, sexual and reproductive health, and breastfeeding.

In order to make a sustainable change through health promotion, more than 1,500 condoms were distributed in 9 sexual and reproductive health workshops, and 8 workshops on WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) were followed by the delivery of more than 50 bucket filters to 50 family groups in the community.

At CUMIS we are firm believers that if there is a way to have a positive impact on another person's life, it is through the sum of each small act of kindness. We are quite sure that, with the help of the noblest hearts, we will continue to bring health to the most disadvantaged communities in our country.

Medical Outreach Program: Playa Colorada.

Our last medical-dental outreach program was held in Playa Colorada, Sucre State, Venezuela; where a total amount of 2380 consultations were made from 8 different specialties: Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Dentistry and Oral Surgery, Bioanalysis, and Psychology.

Once again, we count on the support of the greatest physicians, dentists, bioanalysts, and psychologists, accompanied by students of medicine, dentistry, and psychology.

In the medical area, a total of 1658 patients were assisted, of whom 46.34 % (n=768) were adults and 53.65% (n=890) were pediatric patients (children and adolescents). Similarly, of these patients, the distribution by sex corresponded to 65.1% (n=1079) female patients and 34.18% (n=579) male patients.

The attendance by consultation corresponded to:

• Pediatrics: 566 patients.

• Internal Medicine: 422 patients.

• Dermatology: 362 patients.

• Obstetrics & Gynecology: 207 patients.

• Contraceptive consultation: 101 patients.

In the dental area, 280 patients were assisted, among the different specialties: general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, and maxillofacial surgery. The distribution of attended patients was: 168 adults (60%) and 112 children (40%).

In the area of Psychology, 82 consultations were offered focused on Psychological First Aid. In addition, psychoeducational workshops and talks were given to almost 960 people, on the prevention of domestic violence, sexual and reproductive health, and breastfeeding.

In order to make a sustainable change through health promotion, 8 talks on the prevention of malaria were given. In addition, more than 1,500 condoms were distributed in 12 sexual and reproductive health workshops, and 5 workshops on proper handwashing were followed by the delivery of more than 370 personal hygiene kits to children in the community. Also, 14 workshops about menstrual hygiene were given, with more than 140 menstrual cups delivered.
