Our last medical-dental outreach program was held in Araure, Portuguesa State, Venezuela; where a total amount of 1428 consultations were made from 9 different specialties: Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Otorhinolaryngologist, ophthalmology, general surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Dentistry and Oral Surgery, Bioanalysis, and Psychology.
Once again, we count on the support of the greatest physicians, dentists, bioanalysts, and psychologists, accompanied by students of medicine, dentistry, and psychology.
In the medical area, a total of 560 patients were assisted, of whom 57.89 % (n=324) were adults and 42.14% (n=236) were pediatric patients (children and adolescents). Similarly, of these patients, the distribution by sex corresponded to 60.18% (n=337) female patients and 39.82% (n=223) male patients.
The attendance by consultation corresponded to:
Pediatrics: 211 patients.
Internal Medicine: 245 patients.
Ophthalmology: 130 patients.
Otorhinolaryngologist: 152 patients.
General surgery: 57 patients.
Bioanalysis: 98 patients.
Dentistry: 313 patients.
Psychology: 59 patients.
Obstetrics & Gynecology: 113 patients.
Contraceptive consultation: 50 patients.
In the dental area, 313 patients were assisted, among the different specialties: general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, and maxillofacial surgery. The distribution of attended patients was: 152 adults (48,5%) and 161 children (51,5%).
In the area of Psychology, 59 consultations were offered focused on Psychological First Aid. In addition, psychoeducational workshops and talks were given to almost 864 people, on the prevention of domestic violence, sexual and reproductive health, and breastfeeding.
In order to make a sustainable change through health promotion, 8 talks on the prevention of hypertension were given. In addition, more than 1,500 condoms were distributed in 10 sexual and reproductive health workshops, and 7 workshops on proper handwashing were followed by the delivery of more than 400 personal hygiene kits to children in the community. Also, 7 workshops about menstrual hygiene were given, with more than 120 menstrual cups delivered.
At CUMIS we are firm believers that if there is a way to have a positive impact on another person's life, it is through the sum of each small act of kindness. We are quite sure that, with the help of the noblest hearts, we will continue to bring health to the most disadvantaged communities in our country.
