Women's Health Specialists' young leadership had a busy past couple of months! Amidst the challenges they faced with COVID-19 and wildfires burning in their community, they continued to be resilient and fight for reproductive justice! Young women leaders participated in local Pride month celebrations, fundraised for HIV/AIDS, and marched for abortion justice.
Young leaders attended their local Pride Drive-Thru event and handed out "sex kits" gift bags filled with safer sex tools, community resources, and information about reproductive services. They created a fun and invited atmosphere to talk about sex, birth control, abortion, and so much more. This was all done in a COVID-19 safe environment as the Delta variant continued to rise. Each local Pride event was successful, with staff handing out resources to over 400 young people, especially the underserved LGBTQIA+ community!
Another exciting event we participated in was the NorCal AIDS Cycle. One of our very own youth leaders participated for their first time. This event aims to fundraise for HIV/AIDS programs and services in Northern California. As Women’s Health Specialists is a beneficiary of these funds, our team provides outreach and education, testing, condoms and youth leadership development. Staff participated in the ride from helping to hand out water and food to cyclists along with biking to raise awareness. This experience allowed youth to forge new connections and created new friendships centered on a passion for helping those impacted by HIV/AIDS.
As young women celebrated their recent wins to abortion fundraising, Texas legislators passed one of the most restrictive abortion bans yet. Our community mobilized, and young women leaders joined together to take a stand and to demand abortion justice for all people! These fierce leaders stood firm and used their voices to advocate throughout Northern California.
Please enjoy these photos of our last few busy months and campaigns! Thank you for supporting our work and the leadership of young people in our communities.
