Workshops on the "Healthy Plate"
Workshops on the "Healthy Plate"

Dear friends:

We would like to share with you the latest updates on the “Healthy Nutrition for 120 Children in Oaxaca” project. During this period, we have continued to strengthen our efforts in nutrition education, healthy food production, and community engagement in indigenous communities across the state of Oaxaca.
Thanks to your support, children, adolescents, and families continue to actively engage in activities that promote better nutrition, the care of school gardens, and the revival of traditional knowledge related to food production.

Nutrition Education

  • During this period, three “Healthy Schools” workshops were held in three municipalities, attended by 88 parents: 67 women and 21 men. These sessions provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of a balanced diet and to promote healthy habits within families and schools.
  • Additionally, two workshops on the “Healthy Plate” were held, with 32 children participating (20 girls and 12 boys). They learned through hands-on activities about a balanced diet and the nutritional value of local foods.
  • The workshop “Health and Environmental Risks Associated with the Consumption of Ultra-Processed Foods” was held in the municipality of Capulálpam de Méndez, with the participation of 25 children (14 girls and 11 boys).

Strengthening School Gardens

  • We continued to monitor the school garden in the municipality of Santa María Guelacé, where 61 children participated in activities such as monitoring vegetable growth, cleaning, watering, maintaining the shade net, and organizing the teams responsible for caring for the garden.
  • At the school in Ixtlán de Juárez, an irrigation system was installed for the vegetables in the school garden. Twelve adolescents participated in this activity, strengthening their practical knowledge of sustainable water management and food production.
  • Additionally, in Capulálpam de Méndez, the first phase of a new school garden began with the creation of seedbeds, involving 70 secondary school students. They began their learning process on agroecological production and food sovereignty.

Visible Results in the Communities
We currently have four school gardens in operation, which are already producing fresh food.
These achievements demonstrate how community efforts strengthen healthy eating habits, promote environmental education, and foster an appreciation for traditional agricultural knowledge.

Thank you for your invaluable support
Thanks to your solidarity, schools are becoming spaces where education, nutrition, and community participation come together to improve families’ quality of life.
We wholeheartedly appreciate your trust and commitment to this process of transformation, which continues to grow day by day in the communities of Oaxaca.
