CSTEP Educational Empowerment Center will provide a safe, enriching, learning space in Philadelphia where many families will be losing their neighborhood public schools due to permanent closing in June 2013. Our strategy is to obtain and utilize space now and design classrooms to accomodate computer labs, library, offices for social/career services and provide healthy meals for all participants, which will enable them to cultivate, nurture and sustain a scholastic culture in their own community.
Resident families of North Philadelphia are losing many of their neighborhood public schools close to home in June 2013. This is due to population issues, unsafe school buildings that are considered irreparable, a city public school district that is "strapped" financially, and a tax base that cannot afford to support educational services. In addition, the population affected by these changes is considered one of the most underserved with regard to education in Philadelphia and see it as hopeless
An Educational Empowerment Center in No. Phila. will serve all students and families in all facets of the Educational Process. We will provide education support in academic tutoring, technology, training, college and career coaching services/ workshops to motivate and prepare learners of all ages for successful careers. In addition social services will be provided in order to accommodate all concerns and needs. Healthy meals will be provided at no cost to participants through community partners
CSTEP Educational Empowerment Center will become a "hub" of neighborhood activity. "The place" to go for Inspiration, Guidance, Learning and Advancement. Center members will be encouraged, in addition to utilization of our facilities, to volunteer with us at the center, and assist others like themselves. They inturn will become " Community Educational Champions". The Educational Empowerment Center ( EEC) will be a self sustaining, beneficial program for urban centers and this is only the start!
