Our Moringa orchard has been holding its own over the last couple months, as Mpumalanga faced a harsh drought. The drought was a difficult time and many trees suffered as a result. However, now we have had our first few rains for the Summer reason, and trees are starting to green and revive. We are harvesting the leaves as we speak -the leaves will play two functions.
Firstly we will use them in the daily meal at Nourish - as part of bringing more nutrition into the feeding scheme. Moringa is a superfood - and its important with so many HIV positive children to bring a strong vitamin supplement into the food.
We have also taught a lovely local woman called Splendour how to take the leaves ( which are harvested by 2 local grannies from the village, who are unemployed ) and package the powder into capsules and package it. This will become a form of income generation for Splendour and her family.
So a slow start, but starting to see some special progress with our Moringa brand!
