Parahu - “Let’s Study”
Creating a child-friendly Learning Centre in Nepal
Project Update: March 2022
Workshop Planning
In February, two international interns from the Institute of Social Work, University College Copenhagen joined our team at SAATH. They have been working on the planning and breakdown of the bi-weekly workshops for the children at the learning center.
Public Speaking, Leadership, and Social Skills are some of the areas that the children of Parahu Learning Center will participate in. After creating a module that can be applied in Dhanushadham, we will be providing training for the facilitators of the learning center so that they can transfer the learning to the children. The facilitator will be trained and practice it among themselves prior to the application of the process.
The thematic workshops will be organized for a selected group of children from Grade 6 on a biweekly basis.
Stationery Drive
While the stationery distribution is carried out every month for the children attending the learning center in Dhanushadham, children attending private and public schools in Kathmandu are taking initiatives in collecting the stationery supplies in their respective schools. It is so humbling to see these children supporting their peers who attend schools in different geography and context.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When we started working with the children of Parahu Learning Center a few months back, their number had already increased from 190 to 205. At present, the facilitators report that the number has increased from 205 to 280. 280 children are being accommodated in the two classrooms of the learning center. With only 4 facilitators catering to the learning needs of the children, we hope to focus on the capacities of the facilitators as well as children going to higher grades as a way forward.
