Challenge

Reports from UNHCR and Office of the Prime Minister in Uganda, Uganda hosts more than 1.5 million refugees, but each refugee household is allocated a small plot of land of 50 square feet and World Food Programme cut the food ration causing livelihood burdens to refugees and host communities. The project will strengthen capacity for creation of Domestic Income Generating Assets in their small plots of 50sqr feet to improve household incomes in the refugees and host communities.

Solution

Will create Demonstration Sites used to train creation of Domestic Assets such as kitchen gardens for nutrition, compost manure for fertilizers, underground water reservoirs, vegetables, fruits and woodlot nursery beds. We identify community group representatives to help train in local languages and monitor project beneficiaries. we train formation of Tent markets for domestic products and continuous financial literacy to encourage domestic savings.

Long-Term Impact

The project will lead to improved household/domestic incomes, savings and food security and make a lasting impact such as: Reduced depression in community members, reduced domestic violence, reduced malnutrition rates, teenage pregnancies, crime rates, school dropout and illiteracy, Increased number of business units, increase in community markets for local products, increase in job innovations and research, increased operational financial supporters.
