In 2014 ISIS terrorists invaded various parts of Iraq, killing untold numbers of civilians. In August 2014, ISIS invaded the city of Sinjar and surrounding areas, home to a ethno-religious minority population, the Yezidis. The terrorists killed the men and captured the women and girls, forcing them into abhorrent sexual slavery. Some girls managed to escape or were rescued through third parties. These women and girls are in desperate need of projects that ensure a brighter future.

Through training in weaving and knitting, these women become economic actors. They start earning an income and understand the idea of a sustainable way of living. By empowering these women, we provide important economic tools, knowledge, and the possibility of economic growth for a population that has been traumatised by genocide and badly marginalised. This effort will provide the core operational support to ensure FYF can implement and properly oversee the ETC now and in the future.
