This upcoming fall, CKA is launching Korean American Service Day (KASD) as an annual program to showcase the disparate volunteer efforts of the Korean-American community into a day when we can reach across families, friends and communities to provide support and serve others as the different locales still struggle with disruptions of COVID-19.

Korean American Service Day (KASD) orignally launched back in November 2014 by the Network for Korean American Leaders (NetKAL). Hundreds of volunteers participated in the inaugural event that supported twenty nonprofits in five cities: New York; Atlanta; Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles; and San Francisco.

Co-led by Ellen Kim, a CKA member, the mission of the national service day event was to encourage Korean Americans across the nation to give back to their local communities and demonstrate the Korean American community’s will and power to become positive agents of change in our society. Ellen continued KASD in 2015 and 2017. During that time, KASD increased from five cities to nine: Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Haven, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Seoul, and Washington, D.C. With COVID-19, this national event was paused over the last few years. In addition, with the merger of NetKAL with the Council of Korean Americans, the plan is to continue in the future under the new banner of the this merged organization.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we invest in Korean American organizations that directly work with the most marginalized and vulnerable sectors of our community.

We continue to prioritize three of the most vulnerable areas of need: 1) service for seniors/elderly Korean American population; 2) mental health/family counseling service for the KA community; and 3) economic support for undocumented families.

On March 15th, the Council of Korean Americans (CKA) hosted a public webinar focusing on Korean American women to discuss anti-Asian racism post-COVID. The premise of the online event is to educate the public on Asian women hate crimes and to provide a safe forum for sharing and conversation. CKA is also taking active measures to organize and implement community service days for members who are interested in supporting local organizations ranging from refugee and immigrant relief to volunteerism for the Korean American elderly population.

We value your assistance in our efforts to support nonprofit organizations. Your donations directly impacted these communities that have been affected by COVID-19. We look forward to expanding aid to more community organizations.

On behalf of the Council of Korean Americans, we sincerely thank you again for your support as we continue this important mission to sustain and uplift our community.

Thanks to your support, the Council of Korean Americans was able to help fund and support nonprofit organizations across the U.S., particularly those on the frontlines helping the most vulnerable in our communities.

We decided to prioritize three areas of need:

  1. Service for low-income senior/elderly Korean American population
  2. Mental health/family counseling service for the KA community.
  3. Economic support for undocumented families impacted by the economic downturn.

We worked hard to help other nonprofit organizations provide financial support for their respective communities, and we valued your support in our endeavors, as well! Your donations directly benefited these communities that have been impacted by COVID-19.

  • Korean American Association of Greater Atlanta
  • Korean Community Services of Greater Washington
  • Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York
  • Korean American Family Services - Los Angeles
  • Korean American Community Services - Silicon Valley

As CKA continues to support these Korean American communities, funds will be given to nonprofits in these regions that support Korean Americans who are low-income seniors/support elder care, assist with mental health & family counseling, or provide aid to undocumented families. Direct assistance will continue to be offered to nonprofits on the frontlines of helping the most vulnerable populations of Korean Americans & ensure their constituents do not fall due to a lack of funding.

On behalf of the Council of Korean Americans, we sincerely thank you again for your generosity as we continue this necessary effort. We hope that you will continue to invest in the well-being of the Korean American community.
