Ashwini Charitable Trust is continuing efforts since March 2020 to ensure that none of our student's families go hungry due to job insecurity in the time of a global pandemic and periodic lockdowns. The low income slum dwellers in urban Bangalore are hardest hit. The senior students of the Trust are key in ensuring fair distribution of food provisions amoung the community. Each kit contains: Rice, Toor, Sugar, Atta, Sooji, Chilli Powder, Dhaniya Powder, Tamarind, Oil, Jeera, Turmeric, Salt.
Due to the covid19 pandemic, many daily wage earners like the parents of our students lost their incomes. This unemployment leading to hunger affects entire families and communities living in urban slums. It also limits the access to hygiene and safety products. Managing within a small household, with all family members home due to schools and workplaces being shut, brings about struggles for basic amenities.
This project will reach out to 145 families of our students with food provision kits, which translates to around 800 people. With the lockdowns in place, we have reached out to the community that we are in touch with to ensure that none of our students or their families go hungry.
The long-term impact of this food distribution will be that the children would have had care and support in the worst times, ensuring that they and their families did not starve, and had basic health and hygiene essentials. They have constantly given us the feedback that they knew that Ashwini Charitable Trust was always there to take care of them not only in the best of times, but also in the worst of times.
