This project aims to protect our partner communities who have limited access to preventative resources from the rapidly spreading COVID-19. With poor access to healthcare, running water and sanitary supplies or facilities, these communities are largely unable to protect themselves from the virus. By urgently implementing on-the-ground interventions that include Tippy Taps and soap, face masks and poultry distribution, we aim to reduce the transmission and economic impact of COVID-19.
COVID-19 could have a disastrous impact on the health & economic state of our partner communities. Without access to sanitation or healthcare, they are unable to take basic preventative measures. Limited access to running water & rising costs of material for facial masks contribute to these communities being ill equipped to protect themselves from coronavirus. Socio-economic disruptions negatively impact livelihoods that depend on farming. Food security has plummeted & lives hang in the balance.
ABCF is responding by installing hands-free washing devices that operate without running water for rural households and providing facial masks for communities and rural clinics to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. To improve self-sustaining livelihoods through improved food security, two semi-foraging chickens will be supplied to each household to produce eggs and meat or sold for income.
Reducing risk through health, hygiene and the means to continue living sustainably will better prepare our partner communities for the impact of the pandemic. Investing in local income generating groups will empower & improve resilience. Providing small livestock will help protect livelihoods and increase food security. Implementing and supporting these interventions will enable us to follow through with an emergency response to the hardships COVID-19 has created for the communities.
