I. BACKGROUND
Until July 2020, the situation of COVID in Viet Nam was still under control, yet since 25 July, the country witnessed a resurgence of cases from the community after 99 consecutive days from the last community case (16 April). Specifically, Da Nang and Quang Nam provinces were most heavily affected, as 98% of cases were either related to major hospitals of Da Nang city or have a history of visiting Da Nang. In addition, among 30 reported deaths were 26 cases from Da Nang and 3 from Quang Nam. On the other hand, the Northern province of Hai Duong also experienced a cluster of cases, starting from the first case who was detected in a hospital in Ha Noi on 6 August and transmitted to other people in his close contacts. (according to Viet Nam COVID-19 Situation Report #6 - Report as of 27 August 2020 by WHO Vietnam)
Noticing the emergence of supporting the community to deal with the resurgence of COVID, FORD VN, in collaboration with Live & Learn VN, had devised in-time responses with hope of contributing to the pandemic mitigation in Da Nang and Hai Duong.
II. ACTIVITIES
With the aim of supporting the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Hai Duong (CDC Hai Duong) in their COVID prevention activities in the province, the project provided the center with an amount of 45,000,000 VND, which would be used to cover the cost of fuel and oil for the center’s vehicles in 1 month. Moreover, the Factory of Ford VN also supported CDC Hai Duong with a fleet of 3 cars/trucks to help carry people and anti-pandemic products.
In Da Nang, the Pickup Da Nang Club (PDC) had been volunteering to transport relief goods in the city and to quarantine camps. 42 Ranger cars in the club were contributing to the local COVID prevention. To support PDC in their effort, the project provided them with 42 vouchers, including maintenance and repair service, so that the PDC members could have their car in the best condition for COVID prevention activities.
Each voucher worths 1,500,000 VND, therefore the total amount for supporting PDC is 63,000,000 VND.
III. FUTURE PLAN
Till now, it is believed that Viet Nam has the pandemic under control, as the country has passed 77 days without any cases reported from the community (as of November 18) and are moving toward a safe coexistence with COVID 19. The community outbreak in Da Nang and Hai Duong was successfully controlled. With such positive results, the COVID Response Project by Ford VN and Live & Learn would continue to support the underprivileged in their recovery phase. The project is currently collecting data and needs from different sources like hospitals, partners or local government to devise in-time response plan.
