The COVID-19 pandemic has turned lives upside down. But you can ensure that no girl or child is forgotten. Your gift to Plan International USA will be used where needed most, to help create sustainable change and address the root causes of poverty and inequality. Donations can support programs, innovation, and infrastructure required to deliver our programs to girls and children worldwide, in areas such as protection, education, health, sanitation, disaster relief and economic empowerment.
Our experience shows that girls and young women are particularly vulnerable in health emergencies as there is increased risk of trafficking, gender-based violence and child marriage. An estimated 740 million girls have been forced out of education due to the pandemic. Parental pressure to help at home or earn an income means many adolescent girls will be unable to return to school. Additionally, quarantine measures are cutting children off from essential protection services and social networks.
Plan International USA is committed to raising $1 million to keep children safe. Plan International is active in over 75 countries and these emergency funds can reach more than 50,000 communities across the world. Your donation will help prevent the transmission of COVID-19 among the world's most vulnerable communities - particularly in refugee camps and displaced settings - and reduce the negative social impact on families, women and girls who are disproportionately affected by the crisis.
Plan International USA knows from past crises the long-term indirect impacts facing vulnerable children and young people. For example, when healthcare systems become overwhelmed, girls living in fragile contexts are at risk to a diversion of resources away from other key medical services. As the specific longer-term impacts of the crisis unfold, we will continue to work closely with girls and women to amplify their voices and ensure that they are an active part of the process of rebuilding.
