The ongoing lockdown, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, has affected the lives of some of the most vulnerable communities across India, including deprived and orphan children. The lockdown has not been easy for any of us, especially children. We, at El Shaddai are taking care of 150 children in our homes by ensuring their access to essentials such as soaps, masks, sanitizers, and study kits to have online classes for the children and basic necessities such as shelter, food, and clothing.
The entire country is feeling the effects of COVID-19 in ways both unforeseen and devastating, but the impact on children is massive. The ones who are affected the most belong to the marginalized section of the society. Currently we are looking after 150 children who are dependent on El Shaddai for their basic necessities including good health and better education. These children have unique needs and challenges overall, particularly as they strive to continue their education.
The staff at El Shaddai provide appropriate care and protection to the children who are directly dependent on us. The funds raised through this project will be used to provide basic necessities such as food, shelter, clothing, education and access to critical health support to the children admitted into our homes. And also to source soaps, sanitizers, masks, sanitary pads, and Dettol.
During this COVID-19 pandemic, we want to ensure that the children and youth in El Shaddai are safe, made aware on protective measures, receive proper education and are ready to start their daily life after the end of the pandemic. This is definitely not an easy task, but our collective efforts can help the most vulnerable children in responding to the pandemic and ensuring no child is left behind, unprotected and ignored.
