The Covid-19 crisis in South America has taken an alarming turn, with cases increasing in Brazil, Colombia, and Bolivia. Hospitals are overwhelmed and there have been reports of oxygen shortages and insufficient hospital beds. There are urgent calls for more beds, medicines, oxygen, essential drugs and Covid-19 tests. Hospitals are overwhelmed and are running out of ICU beds and other critical medical equipment.
As the coronavirus continues to spread, marginalized communities in South America are on the frontlines of the crisis. In Brazil, over 463,000 people have died from the virus, and the daily death rate remains high as hospitals are running out of equipment. Colombia's political unrest has led to its healthcare system being stretched for resources and in Bolivia, hospitals are shutting their ICU doors due to a lack of capacity for new patients. Now is the time to show the strength of our community.
