The covid – 19 has been a deadly pandemic that has affected the whole world. The virus has affected the lifestyle of human beings. Currently, people started living a normal life and the covid also got subsided day by day. Yet, in order to live a healthy and happy life in the future we all need to vaccine, indeed Nandri arranged 100 camps in Kolappalur village to vaccine our Nandri mothers through government of Tamil Nadu. Likewise Nandri conducted covid awareness rally in the villages.
During the period of covid - 19 more than 63 crore people have been affected all over the world and more than 65 lakhs people have died. And 70 members from Nandri self help group also have died due to covid and Nandri comforted the bereaved families and prayed for their souls, and supported them with 10000 thousands to each family for the funeral service.
The works of Nandri in the society during COVID – 19
During the pandemic Nandri staffs were sending two by two to many villages to check the temperature and to give awareness among the people. Nandri distributed 10kgs of rice to 5000 people like, Auto drivers, tribels and Nomads. And also provided 3000 face mask for police and doctors, as well as vegetables and food for the people who were forsaken by their family members.
Livelihood Support to Nandri Mothers
Every month while distributing the financial support to Nandri mothers, Nandri selects three mothers from very poor family background and those who are affected by the natural calamity of Covid – 19 supports and provides their basic needs. At the beginning of covid Nandri supported 6000 Nandri mothers with Rs.500/- each and it was their livelihood.
Like many countries throughout the world, India is seeing its 3rd wave of Covid infections. The Nandri villages had experienced a large reduction in the number of people getting Covid but unfortunately in recent weeks this has changed. The larger cities near the Nandri villages are experiencing a substantial growth in the number of infections. And our villagers are once again dealing with Covid infections in their families. Unfortunately the world is realising that Covid has not gone away.
Education is vital. We have continued with our education programme for our mothers and their children. We teach them the important guidelines to avoid infection. We have provided them with masks and instruct them in the importance of getting vaccinated, hygiene, social distancing and following all the government guidelines in order to stay healthy.
The economic damage that Covid has caused to our poor families is enormous. Their daily wage jobs have disappeared and they are struggling to survive and feed their impoverished families. Nandri has continued to give our families financial aid to help them survive the pandemic, feed their children and keep them in education. We provide meals and food packages for those in need and offer hope, support and a sense of community to them in this very difficult time.
We can only help our families with your generous support. We thank you on behalf of our mothers and their families. With your donations we have helped our children and their parents survive. On behalf of all the people your genorosity has supported, we say a big thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
The number of Covid19 infections among our mothers and their families continues to fall and importantly the number of those very ill with the virus has reduced substantially. Our education programme has been very effective in curbing the numbers of people in our villages infected with Covid19.
We have continued with this important innitiative and in February Joe our director held an awareness and educational meeting for our mothers in the village of Kolappalur. Joe explained the importance of getting vaccinated, it's safeness and also how vital it is to maintain a very high level of hygiene to prevent the spread of the virus.
Nandri in partnership with the local government has organised 100 vaccination camps over the last number of months in the Tamil Nadu region. The village of Kolapppalur has been very receptive to the education programme provided by Nandri and there is now a 95 per cent uptake of the vaccine among the villagers.
Life in our Nandri villages has returned to normal in the last few weeks as the infection rate has subsided. Our mothers and their families are very grateful for the educational support and practical food and financial aid Nandri has provided through this very difficult time.
In rural India and in some of our local villages, there is still a lack of knowledge regarding the efficacy of the vaccine and the important part it plays in controlling the spread of COVID19. As in all areas of our Nandri Mothers lives, we strive to educate and support them and knowledge of COVID prevention and the importance of the vaccine to protect us and our loved ones is vital for our families and for society in general.
Nandri organised a Vaccine Awareness Rally in Kolappalur. It was attended by hundreds of our mothers with Nandri Director Joe starting the procession which made its way through many of the local villages. It proved a great success in building awareness of the importance of getting vaccinated.
Nandri has also organised special vaccination camps for our mothers to get innoculated. Our Nandri staff lead by example and in order to give confidence to our mothers, got their vaccinations too. We are also providing an outreach service to local villages whereby qualified volunteers visit and check temperatures and pulses and offer advice and support if people are feeling unwell.
We at Nandri continue to feed and support many of our families who are struggling with great financial hardship because of the pandemic. Unfortunately our poor families were hit by another natural disaster. Due to devastating recent floods in Tamil Nadu, many people have lost their dwellings and all their posessions. Nandri is caring for and offering shelter to around 100 people who were made homeless. Our Nandri mothers from Chatpet village are cooking daily meals and with Nandri's help we are providing them with clean drinking water and basic needs.
We thank you for your continued financial help. WIthout you, Nandri could not continue to provide essential aid for our mothers and their families.
In the midst of the ongoing disaster of Covid19 in India, Nandri is supporting our mothers financially and in their day to day needs while also continuing our campaign to educate them and their families on the importance of getting vaccinated against Covid19.
We collaborated with the local Rotary Club in Kolappalur Village and held a Covid19 Awareness Rally. Amongst the villagers in rural communities in Tamil Nadu, there is a great deal of hesitancy, unfounded rumours and suspicion surrounding the vaccine. The aim of the rally was to educate our families on the medical facts regarding the vaccine. We also explained the importance of getting vaccinated both for the individuals and also the community as a whole.
Nandri Director Joe presided over the Awareness Rally, with around 70 mothers taking part. Nandri is supporting our mothers in every way possible in order to help them survive the devastation of the pandemic. In conjunction with the Tamil Nadu Government, we will continue to educate and facilitate Vaccine centers in the rural villages and hold rally’s to encourage our families to take part in the vaccination programmes.
If you would like to help us in this vital work, please donate. Your support means everything to our Nandri mothers and their families. On behalf of all at Nandri, I thank you.
