Provide Daily Nutritious Meals to Slum Children

Namaste and warm greetings to you from the BASS India team.

We are deeply grateful for your continuous partnership and support in our ongoing mission, "Provide Daily Nutritious Meals to Slum Children." We are pleased to share a heartfelt update on our work and achievements from May to August 2026.

The new 2026–2027 academic year officially began on June 12, 2026, across our BASS Upper Primary School and our 7 after-school learning centers. Currently, 120 children are benefiting from school meals and educational support. For many of these young students, the mid-day meal they receive at our center is their primary source of daily nutrition. Thanks to your support, these children now have the energy, health, and focus required to attend class, learn, and thrive, rather than struggling with the pain of hunger.

Our most critical intervention continues at the Guntur Chili Market Yard, a high-volume labor hub for migrant workers from states like Bihar and Odisha. While parents work grueling hours sorting and grading chilies, BASS operates two dedicated day-care centers as a safe haven for 120 vulnerable children under 14 years of age. During May, we paused operations for a one-month summer break, aligning with the yard's annual closure while many migrant families briefly visited their home states. In June 2026, as workers returned, we fully restored our center operations.

At our day-care centers, we provide the children with balanced mid-day meals and healthy evening snacks. Dedicated teachers and helpers offer foundational education using the children's mother tongue, ensuring they do not fall behind academically. Crucially, our centers provide a safe, protective environment away from the harsh hazards and heavy dust of the chili yards. We are also proud to highlight that our dedicated service earned formal recognition from Samagra Shiksha, Guntur, Government of Andhra Pradesh. Although government funding concluded on March 31, 2026, our team has kept these essential services running without interruption.

Between May and August 2026, we successfully raised $1,780 through GlobalGiving. While every dollar brings vital relief, our current funding remains lower than the actual operational costs needed to sustain these programs. With the academic year in full swing, consistent funding is essential to maintain the quality of nutrition and care these children deserve.

A contribution of $400 provides daily meals to 50 children for an entire month. We humbly invite you to consider setting up a recurring donation of $100 per month. Monthly support gives us the stability to plan long-term and ensures that no child in our care ever goes hungry.
