Thank you for your continued support for our project. Here is some updates to give you insight into our projects.
Let's start with beach cleans!
Thanks to your support, in 2024, our team collected and registered an incredible 917kg of trash during our weekly beach cleans! This achievement shows how consistent small efforts can build toward major change for our oceans and environment. Every piece collected matters—and this impact wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing volunteers. Your dedication continues to inspire us all!
One of our favorite beaches, Punta Brava, is breathtaking—but like many others, it's impacted by plastic pollution. Our team showed up in force for a special clean-up here, gathering heaps of rubbish. The final weight is still being tallied, but the effort was tremendous. Beach cleans are a critical line of defense against marine debris. Whether it's a full sack or just a few pieces, every action counts!
Turtle conservation
We’ve been hard at work monitoring loggerhead sea turtles with the help of dedicated citizen scientists and volunteers. Our survey methods include:
1 Incidental Sightings – Recording data during dives (sex, site, depth, time, and date).
2 Nesting Patrols – Night and morning beach patrols to document nesting activity.
3 Photo Identification – Using unique images to identify individual turtles.
4 Nesting Data Collection – Counting nests to provide essential conservation data.
5 Conservation Action – Sharing findings with local and national decision-makers to promote marine protection strategies.
Your donations support this vital fieldwork and allow us to continue gathering the data needed to safeguard these incredible creatures.
Women in Science: Leading the Way
On the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we celebrated the incredible women on our team who are out in the field every day—collecting data, leading research, and championing marine life protection. We’re proud to stand for representation in STEM, and your support helps make their work possible.
Reef Surveys with Purpose
During our reef surveys, we prioritize eco-conscious diving practices to protect the fragile marine ecosystems we're studying. We ensure:
Excellent buoyancy control
Streamlined equipment
Fins angled safely away from coral
These practices are crucial to prevent harm to the organisms we work so hard to protect.
The Eagle Ray Project
Another exciting project your donations support is our collaboration with @eagleray.project! We conduct weekly dives to a wreck site, where we monitor eagle rays by:
Taking identification photos
Recording sex, number of individuals, and group shapes
Editing images and processing data to build a “fingerprint” of each ray’s pelvic fins
This ongoing research contributes to the protection and understanding of these majestic animals.
Thank You!
Every beach clean, dive survey, data set, and conservation win is made possible by your generosity. Your donations are helping protect ocean ecosystems, support field science, and empower women in conservation. We’re so grateful to have you with us on this journey.
Here’s to more impact in the future!
