Challenge

The Seychelles 2 biggest industries in Seychelles, fishing and tourism, are directly dependent upon its amazing natural resources but pressures from climatic change and poaching, increasingly place those resources under threat with negative impacts on both the marine environment and the people reliant upon them.

Solution

The project works closely with the Seychelles National Parks Authority, local Government and NGOs conducting research regarding the health of the coral reefs and managing the utilization and protection of the marine resources, whilst conducting environmental education across community members, and marine research training and capacity building with partners and graduates.

Long-Term Impact

Our long term project contributes to the longest-running data set on coral reef health in Seychelles, whilst building capacity to conduct research locally. The actions of this project have worked towards changing attitudes towards marine biodiversity, and helped work towards policy development through the strengthening of local networks.
