ASIGE women baskets is the innovation that uses straw and dye to design colourful baskets for local and international markets. This project will will create sustainable employment for over 1000 women the value chain and contribute to eliminating poverty completing. AWB, therefore wants to build craft centre/park where we can produce quality baskets/crafts and also serve as an International tourist destination in Ghana. This project is the future of the rural women of Bolgatanga Ghana
Women in Upper East region are affected by extreme poverty and this is due to lack of formal education and sustainable skills for livelihood. Apart from that the region is also affected by high rural urban migration especially women and this is due to poverty. These women and girls travel to southern to work in restaurants, some get raped sleeping in slumps and streets exposed to hazards of the weather, girls drop out of school and congestion of major cities.
ASIGE women Baskets is an innovation that puts over 100 rural women together in a group and has trained these women in skills to design colorful baskets and crafts for the local and international markets. With the construction of the craft, it will serve as conducive work environment that will provide income for the women. Besides that the center will also serve as park to attract international tourist will give the women income and hence poverty is taken away
In the long term, the community of sumbrungu will be one stop shop in Ghana for all crafts and baskets. The women will have sustainable employment and income and hence being able to take care of their children especially the girl child. Rural urban migration especially school going girls with be reduced substantially due mothers being able to provide their basic needs
