Save The Pastoralists Kenya (STP) is working tirelessly to protect and restore the Lokitela Etuko rangeland, home to more than 120,000 pastoralists and their livestock. These lands, vital for over 500,000 sheep and camels, are under severe threat from overgrazing, deforestation, and climate change.
To safeguard livelihoods, STP has mobilized communities and strengthened local institutions. Sixteen rangeland committees, each with 20 members equally women and men, now lead protection and management efforts. Through training, awareness, and sustainable land-use planning, these committees are building resilience and ownership at the grassroots.
The next phase focuses on restoration: adopting sustainable grazing practices, planting 1,500 trees, constructing four water-harvesting structures, and reseeding degraded lands. These actions will revive ecosystems, secure water, and restore grazing capacity for generations to come.
STP, therefore, calls upon well-wishers and donors to support this project to realize its set goals.
STP’s commitment remains clear, empowering pastoralists to conserve, restore, and sustain Turkana’s grazing lands as the foundation of their lives and livelihoods.
