We had 100 pastoralists actively protecting the Lokitela Etuko rangeland. They helped prevent charcoal burning, tree cutting, unplanned development, and urban expansion. Their efforts also aimed to reduce overgrazing, deforestation, and the effects of climate change. This work is crucial in preserving the land for future generations.
The project's main activities are still pending due to a lack of sufficient funding. These activities are essential for long-term rangeland sustainability. Once funds are secured, implementation will begin promptly. The project team is prepared to act once resources are available.
Planned activities include sustainable grazing practices and planting 1,500 trees. The project also aims to build four water harvesting structures and reseed the grazing lands. Another key goal is creating a sustainable land management plan with 10 local committees and communities. These actions are designed to restore and protect the environment.
In addition, the project will focus on water conservation and management. Community education and awareness programs will also be provided. Strengthening existing community-based initiatives is a priority. These combined efforts will help ensure a more resilient and sustainable rangeland ecosystem.
