This project supports locally led, collaborative initiatives, across Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Pacfic, that work towards reducing habitat and species loss, and support local communities to protect their natural resources and adapt to the climatic change. The goal of this project is to work globally to increase awareness of the current conservation and climate crisis we face and mitigate against their combined effects
We are currently facing the 6th Mass Extinction, and that we are the cause of it. 1 million different species are now threatened with extinction (UN, 2021). 75 % of global coral reefs have been affected by mass bleaching-level heat stress, 30 % to mortality level stress (NOAA, 2021). An estimated 1 billion people will be directly affected by climate change by 2050, through loss of homes and communities through sea level increases, severe weather, lack of freshwater and food insecurity (UN,2021)
The project works across habitats and biodiversity hotspots, communities and countries to support stakeholders and partner organisations to implement locally led, long term conservation, carbon reduction and mitigation projects. These include rainforest conservation, coral reef restoration and monitoring, habitat management, anti-poaching initiatives, recycling and waste management, and alternative income generation initiatives
The project increases awareness of the current conservation and climate crisis which we all face and supports locally led solutions across multiple regions, habitats and local communities. The collaborative projects supported creates immediate impact, build local capacity to manage and conserve local natural resources through a combination of workshops, training and on-going support, and work towards regulation and policy change through the strengthening of local organisations and networks
