Your support will supply computers to our kids as well as seed our Computer Program. We received a donation of 150 towers with motherboards and processors intact. This money will enable us to buy the needed PC components and will allow our staff and volunteers to teach our Kids how to assemble and operate a PC. Our Kids will benefit with not only the computer but the much needed tech knowledge they will gain through building it from the ground up!
Technology aptitude is vital for school and workplace success. However, 1,000s of Fullerton's youth have limited access to this resource. These kids are also scoring below grade level in math and reading. In order to have a greater impact on our youth, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fullerton have been working with community partners to expand our technology centers. Replacing antiquated computers is not enough. Our youth also need to have a basic understanding of how a computer works.
The "Tech Program" will develop valuable technology skills for at-risk youth in Fullerton. By re-designing our computer labs, we will create access to technology. This program will also teach kids about the basic understanding of computer components, software and processing equipment. This learned ability can be a tandem skill and lead to life ling learning. Although technology is ever changing, students will become familiar with current platforms as well as future technology.
Teaching a man to fish has a lifelong impact. Redesigning our computer program will have a similar effect. Our students will gain basic knowledge and the confidence to explore other methods of learning. Over 250 kids in Fullerton will directly benefit from program. But as our progressive learning dictates, these kids will teach other children what they have mastered. This creates an endless stream of learners. Ultimately, our entire Club population will benefit from this program.
