After a succesfull fundraising compaign, the dedicated donors (that means you!) were able to provide our partner school with additional desktop computers. These computers, in addition to software and equipment provided, allow students in our partner schools to participate in a computer literacy initatiative taking place across Uganda. Your contributions provided 3 computers to Solomon Memorial Primary School and Sya Bright Future Primary School respectively and 6 computers to Pearl High School. Additionally, donations were able to provide 3 computers to our healthcare partners at Hevia Uganda. These computers allow our partners to provide enhanced healthcare services to the Engari community and create essential public health reporting.
Deus Mwijuke, Managin Director of HEVIA Uganda, stated: "As part of our appreciation we would like to note that with the provision of these computers, the schools and the health care unit have increased opportunity for better performance.
As far as schools are concerned, access to more computers is to facilitate acquisition of ICT skills among the learners and teachers ... the new Competency Based Curriculum in Uganda emphasizes acquisition of skills such as ICT hence providing the schools with required equipment to implement the new curriculum. We also believe that our students are now inspired to stay in school and eventually when they complete their education, they will have an extra skill which increases employment opportunities.
With regard to the health facility, provision of computers is going to improve services as patient data, financial data and reporting to the ministry of Health will be conducted in time. Moreover, the ministry’s guidelines require all health facilities to submit medical records electronically and that is now possible.
Overall, we are grateful not only for the computers given to us but we also cherish our partnership over time which is greatly impacting on education and health care of our people in the rural communities. Whenever we receive support from you, the entire community benefits in one way or the other and we cannot doubt the long term benefit of our partnership."
Mr. Mwijuke also noted there is a continued need to increase the number of computers accessible to community members. As each member of the community gains access to the technology, resources, and empowerment, they also gain access to career prospects, education, and healthcare.
Therefore, Joy of Community will continue to work towards funding the computer literacy program in each of our partner schools, as well as the HEVIA healthcare facility. We appreciate your continued support in these efforts.
With the best regards,
Joy of Community Foundation
