Twenty-five young pregnant and very poor mothers, from 14 to 22 years, received pregnancy medical care, nutritional support, provision of medicines and psychosocial guidance to protect and empower their lives and the life of their babies. They come to Salud y Familia since the third or fourth 4 months of pregnancy, and already 18 of them have given birth to their babies.
The young mothers are participating in training workshops on issues about pregnancy care and childbirth, breastfeeding, childcare, affectivity and sexuality, family relations, and some of the fathers also come to the workshops.
There are 48 young mothers and women learning trades and entrepreneurial tools trades to optimize their living conditions and encourage attitudes of personal and family improvement in pastry, manicure, and hairdressing so that they can obtain livelihoods and meet their many needs.
Each course is for 44 hours, and many of the girls are already putting into practice what has been learned and generating a small income.
With these programs the health of the mother and the baby is protected, also the training helps encourage the personal and family life of these young mothers who are highly neglected, lack education and incentives to overcome their life situations.
