International Freedom Council in alliance with Asociacion civil Salud y Familia (NGO Health and Family) presents this project aimed at the prevention of pregnancy and other risk behaviors in teenagers from disadvantaged social communities and the empowerment, compressive health care and education of young pregnant women and their babies, from extremely poor urban and rural communities.
Venezuela presents itself as the country with the highest rate of adolescent pregnancies in South America, because of extreme poverty and no education, especially in the rural and suburban areas of the country. This situation brings about among other thing the vicious circle of poverty. Pregnant young women mostly out of poor and unstructured families with unstable relationships drop out of the educational system, lacking economic resources for a decent livelihood and access to basic healt care.
1. We will provide health care, training, and education to 15 young mothers and their baby's. They will receive comprehensive health care, including the medical control of the pregnancy, nutritional support, provision of medicines and psychosocial guidance to protect their lives and the life of their babies. 2. Prevention courses for 240 students, 100 parents and 80 teachers. They receive information and tools aimed at preventing pregnancies and other risk behaviors in adolescents.
Decrease the number of adolescents pregnancies and other risk behaviors, especially in rural communities through training in life skills, affective, sexual education and raising awareness of the value of women, family, and life. Improve the health and living conditions of young mothers in situation of vulnerability and social risk through the provision of comprehensive health services, special laboratory and ultrasound studies, psychosocial orientation, health and family education.
