By Kevin Schoeler | CCF Project Leader
We have just about reached the 15% mark of our goal that will enable us to build and maintain community gardens for more than 10,000 kids and their families in the CCF community. Full funding of $10,000 will provide garden plots for twelve CCF facilities and World Housing sites as well as vertical gardens for our daycare and community centers and playgrounds. This funding will also provide community space for our World Housing Sites that curently contain 100 homes for CCF famlies.
The CCF Community Garden Project will create green spaces within CCF communities, satellite schools and live-in facilities--promoting healthy eating, self-sufficiency, "hands on" educational opportunities and enhancing day to day living environments for thousands of people. Community gardens will also provide a cost effective food source: families tending the gardens will consume the produce and the excess will be shared, or sold to provide a small self-sustainable income.
