Progress Report - Clean water access at The Center of Love 30th July 2025

By Felister Muthoni | Manager -The Center of Love Foundation

The Centre of Love Foundation held several initiatives to promote the uptake of clean water while also emphasizing on proper sanitation and hygiene practices to communities within Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya. The following activities were held: 1. Installation of a reverse osmosis water treatment plant at Olympic Primary & Secondary School, Kibera The water treatment plant was installed at the school to purify and provide clean and safe drinking water. To date, over 5,000 school going children are benefiting from the clean water. This has enhanced their access and retention to education as a result of minimal absenteeism that would have been caused by water borne diseases. The school has also established a water club whose primary purpose is awareness creation on the uptake of clean water and promotion of proper sanitation and hygiene practices. The success of this project was through the support of Rotary Club of Littleton as the project champion. 2. WASH Soccer tournament community outreach Themed "KICK IT FOR WASH" A soccer tournament was held in April 2025. 80 women and girls from Kibera slums aged 15-70 participated in the event. Women and girls are the primary users of water and therefore were targeted to create awareness and ensure more households have access to and are consuming clean and safe water. The event comprised of soccer games and interactive dialogues on; access to water, sanitation and hygiene improvement. WASH packs that comprised of; sanitary towels, inner wear and soap were distributed to all participants. 3. The supply of clean water and community toilets at The Centre of Love Premises The Centre of Love Foundation continued with its commitment to ensure families and institutions around it had access to clean water. Over 500 families, 2 schools and one church accessed water at the Centre of Love premises. The presence of a water treatment plant at the Centre also ensured all water accessed is safe for all cooking and drinking needs. The Center of Love also has 8 toilets which were open to community members around. The community toilets are very necessary since most homes around do not have a single toilet. The presence os clean toilets addressed the sanitation challenges around and ensured people maintained hygiene especially in the disposal of waste . All the above initiatives have ensured communities around Kibera have access to clean & safe water and are more aware and informed on proper sanitation and hygiene practices. The Centre of Love Foundation is great full for all the generous support it has been receiving from people and institutions to make the above WASH initiatives a reality. We look towards future partnerships and support in order to continuously improve health of communities through access to clean and safe water.
