Unsafe water consumption is a major health risk factor contributing most to premature death. In Kibera urban slum, where access to safe water is especially limited through constant rationing, water kiosks are a relevant safe water source. The Centre of Love purposed to construct a water kiosk to offer a promising solution for providing safe drinking water to the community.
Through the construction period, the Centre of Love continued to facilitate community awareness on the importance of safe drinking water as a necessary building block for securing the future of an at-risk child. It is noble for the community to understand that a child who does not have safe access to clean water is a more vulnerable target for all forms of illness.
We have witnessed increased safe clean drinking water uptake by the community members being the core clients. The challenge has been with the families that live a distance far from the Centre of Love and want to access the safe clean drinking water. In the next phase, the Centre of Love will need to procure a motorbike to enhance the water delivery service to the households.
Water dispenser bottles have been a challenge due to increase prices. For a household to receive safe clean water, it has been a requirement to get a free water dispenser bottle and a manual water hand pump. However, the cost of the water dispenser bottles doubled in the last quarter therefore, staggering our operations to serve the community.
The construction of the water kiosk in complete and the Ultra Filtration Machine installed plus and extra 10000litre water tank.
The Centre of Love is making an appeal to support the community in creating the awareness on the importance of safe clean drinking water, hygiene and sanitation.
