It has been quite a long period we couldn’t came back to you and share our initiatives in restoring back the lives of Sunderbans Communities impacted to the edge by the hit made by the widely devastating cyclone- ‘Amphan’.
Though taken time but we are now excited with the progress we could make with your hearty supports from far and near. We along with the impacted communities collectively could restore back the basic requirements of safe drinking water by installing tube-wells, roads to ensure safe and smooth mobility and restore back the agri-based livelihood options that brought back the confidence and smile among the fortune beaten people from remote riverine and coastal Sunderbans in Patharpratima, Sagar and Mathurapur II blocks of South 24 Parganas district.
We also planted Sundari and alike trees through cash for work initiatives with support from community people. Thus individual families received support restoring Cultivations activities and build the base for livelihood options utilising the existing available natural resources – like ponds, pond embankment buffer lands, homestead lands etc.
In course of our activities we boosted the spirit of the agrarian communities impacted who faced severe criticalities after the cyclone ‘Amphan’. Thus came into surface the agri-based Pond based Integrated Farming – Pond based Fishing activities, utilising the pond embankments in the most justified way.
I am giving some of such references in the pictures ornamenting any place within homestead land and embankment areas. We are happy to share these photos which are the testimony of our efforts.
Friends we are overwhelmed with the support you rendered! Yet there is many more miles to go restore back the lives of the marginalised Sunderbans communities on a settled base vulnerable to the susceptibility of Nature’s whims
