Sumana is a 14 years old girl lives in Joykrishnapur village under Nandakumarpur GP in South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. She belongs to a BPL family with family members consisting of 5 people. Her father works as a domestic worker and mother as a housewife.
Sumana became ill few days back. She used to feel feverish and could not eat anything. As a consequence, she became irregular in her school and therefore, studies were affected quite a bit. She was being treated by quacks and never visited doctor and therefore the problem persists.
Under these circumstances, Sabuj Sangha intervened and the health workers of Sabuj Sangha interacted with the family members of Sumana to get an idea about the problem. They had a prolonged discussion with the parents of Sumana and advised them to take Sumana to a qualified and specialised doctor. The health workers also suggested that she should be brought to the outreach camp of Joykrishnapur where the treatment could be done in a nominal cost and some free medicines also available. After that she was brought into the camp for three times consecutively. Presently, she is doing fine. According to the family, it has been a great learning for them as they have realised that they have wasted quite an amount of money to quacks instead of visiting qualified doctor.
