Reduce Hunger and Women's Workloads in South Sudan

 Women and girls are waiting for the grinding mill every day! Every month!

With your help Hope Ofiriha has raised $2460 and these funds are in bank account as the fundraising is still ongoing.

Cooking in Omilling is regarded as the duty of women and girls. They are still using their hands to cut maize kernels from cobs, grind maize into smooth powder.  They have to squat on their knees for hours which is hurting their backs and joins. There are no other choices for them!

 Fetching water is also regarded as the task of women and girls. Since water is very scarce children and women must walk miles upon miles every day to nearby streams to fetch water. This is the hardest work which cannot stop as people must eat food and drink water every day.

Women are very tired and several of them are too weak to grind maize flour to feed their families due to intensive labour they went through. They will continue in this cycle of hardship until death unless they are help. Previous generations were living on these conditions until death, and now their children are in the same cycle of hardship.  

But we are facing the challenges of raising enough money to buy the Grinding mill. We are looking for 10 people to sign up for recurring monthly donation.  Having $10 from 10 different people each month is better than getting $1200 in December – as one time donation.  

Say if 10 people sign up for recurring monthly donation - Hope Ofiriha can then make arrangement to get the grinding mill on hire purchase from the supplier in Uganda.

 Hope Ofiriha will in turn pay the supplier by installment each month $300 *24 months= $7200.  Please sign up for recurring monthly donation of $10 – only.  This is the best way to help the women and girls in Omilling village.

99% of women suffers from backs and joins in Omilling village because of extensive squatting.

On 08- Feb - 2011 president Omer al-Bashir, issued a republican decree accepting the final results of referendum, which supports the separation of the South into an independent state. North and South Sudan are presently engaged in talks to resolve the sensitive issues, which includes sharing of oil revenues, demarcation of boarders, and the contested oil-rich Abyei region.

In Omilling village women still use hands to cut maize kernels from cobs, and to grind maize-grains into the smooth flour. To do this they squat on their knees for hours hurting their backs and joins. This is the hardest work which takes months to finish after each harvest. When women cannot produce maize-flour their children go hungry.

99% of women suffers from backs and joins because of extensive squatting while doing the hard work. In January three women were beaten by their husbands because they failed to keep up with the production of smooth-flour to provide foods. They are suffering from back, and join pains daily.  Also in Omilling rural community cooking is regarded women’s duty. So you see it is not easy to be a woman or a girl in rural areas of south Sudan. Women are voiceless and have no say in their lives.

Women are waiting for this project to come, but Hope Ofiriha cannot set a date to deliver it because it is facing hard-time to raise money to implement the initiative.

In our bank account it's recorded $1, 850, - donated in 2010 for this project – but we still need your help to raise the balance. This project is implementable only when project's budget is met.

To keep up with the momentum of this life – changing project and the ability of our hard working women, we need 200 people to give $10 – or more per month on regular basis.
