The LEAD Coalition is a Community Development Corporation that convenes stakeholders to develop and implement authentic, collaborative solutions to neighborhood challenges. The LEAD Coalition of Bay County, Inc., is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization registered in Florida.This sponsorship will allow LEAD to develop new programs and form partnerships with local businesses and organizations that will greatly benefit the community at large.
Interactive educational workshops for small businesses, artisans and homeowners in the Panama City, FL, historic African American communities provide foundational knowledge and networking that lead to success. More workshops are needed to support the growing demand by the community.
Participants need to cover food, childcare and transportation expenses in order to attend the workshops. Most funding sources, however, do not cover meal costs and attendance incentives. This project allows the LEAD Coalition to provide snacks, meals and gift card incentives for the workshops.
Workshops change the trajectory of businesses and lives of the participants. A cottage industry baker who received a $5,000 Micro Loan invested it in equipment and doubled her income. She is planning to open a store front. She wrote her business plan in the Cornerstone Trust Micro Loan Workshop Series. Another workshop participant in the Construction Workers Basic Skills Workshop expanded his handy man business as a result of his participation in the workshop. Knowledge impacts the bottom line.
