At Girls Write Now, we believe in nurturing young writers not just as creatives, but as whole individuals—supporting their social-emotional well-being, academic achievements, and professional aspirations. One of our standout mentees, Kayla M., embodies the transformative impact of our Collaboratory. Kayla joined Girls Write Now during the pandemic and, with the support of her mentor Stephanie, has flourished as both a writer and a professional. She has received prestigious accolades, including being named a New York Youth Poet Laureate Finalist and a Southern Poverty Law Center Community Poem Winner. Beyond writing, Girls Write Now has also helped Kayla navigate the finance industry, where she secured a role with RBC Capital Markets and is set to join Goldman Sachs in investment banking this summer.
Reflecting on her journey, Kayla shares: “Girls Write Now taught me the importance of my words, identity, and the space I occupy. It gave me the confidence to engage in male-dominated fields, take on leadership positions on campus, and believe in my potential for success. The encouragement and care that the Girls Write Now team gives to mentees is unparalleled. From being paired with a skilled writer to being embraced by my peers, Girls Write Now has consistently been a pillar in my life, from high school to college—and now for life.”
Since our last update, the Girls Write Now Collaboratory has expanded its offerings, continuing to support the ambitions of young women and gender-expansive youth. We’ve hosted a series of interdisciplinary workshops connecting storytelling with career development, launched new mentorship pairings, and provided mentees with invaluable networking opportunities. Our programs foster not just creativity but also confidence, ensuring that young leaders like Kayla are equipped to succeed in any field they choose. Thanks to our supporters, we are growing a new generation of changemakers who use their voices to make an impact.
Your generosity makes this work possible, and we are deeply grateful for your continued belief in our mission. We look forward to sharing more stories of transformation and success in the months ahead!
