As we celebrate 25 years of empowering the next generation of writers and leaders, the impact of our work continues to shine through our mentees. Take, for example, Palmares, a high student who joined Girls Write Now three years ago at the age of 14. Through our mentoring program, Palmares developed confidence in her writing, explored new genres, and honed her storytelling skills. This fall, a now 17 year old Palmares shared her Girls Write Now story with the audience at our annual gala. She moved the audience with her testimonal about developing her own nonprofit: The Liminal Photography Project. In partnership with Girls Write Now, she was able to start the groud work for providing free portraiture photography to individuals and families going through transitional periods. Palmares's journey represents just one of the hundreds of young women and gender-expansive youth we serve each year. In the past 12 months alone, Girls Write Now has mentored over 500 students from underserved communities, 90% of whom identify as BIPOC and 75% as first-generation immigrants.
Girls Write Now has expanded our curriculum, launching new initiatives such as the Collaboratory, a space where mentees explore entrepreneurship, leadership, and creative writing. In addition, Career 360, our leadership program for young adults aged 18-24, has provided career-building workshops and industry connections for over 100 participants. The powerful combination of mentorship, community, and career training continues to be a lifeline for our mentees, helping them navigate academic, personal, and professional challenges.
As we look ahead, we’re excited to participate in GlobalGiving's upcoming matching campaigns, which will further bolster our ability to serve the talented young women and gender-expansive youth who are breaking down barriers and redefining leadership in creative industries. Your support has made a difference in their lives, and we thank you for standing with us.
