This project will establish Girls Coding & Digital Skills Clubs across Ghana to empower 1,000 girls with coding, robotics, digital tools, and leadership training. With mentorship from women in tech, access to laptops, internet, and peer networks, girls will gain the confidence to dream bigger, pursue STEM careers, and break inequality cycles, unlocking brighter futures and inspiring the next generation of female leaders
In Ghana, thousands of girls dream big, but without digital tools, many of those dreams are cut short. Only 7% of women have ever used a computer, and girls make up just 39% of STEM students. Most schools, especially in rural areas, lack computer labs, and fewer than 20% of university IT students are women. Girls who grow up in rural areas like 13-year-old Ama, who dreams of coding and becoming an IT professional but has never touched a computer, risk being left behind in a tech-driven world.
This project will create Girls Coding & Digital Skills Clubs across Ghana, providing laptops, internet, and hands-on training in coding, robotics, and digital tools. Girls will learn in safe, supportive spaces, guided by women mentors and university volunteers. By equipping them with skills, confidence, and role models, we will close the gender gap in STEM and open pathways to education, careers, and leadership.
By empowering 1,000 girls with coding and digital skills, this project will break cycles of inequality and inspire lasting change. Girls who once lacked access will become future software developers, engineers, and innovators who can transform their families and communities. As these girls mentor others, a chain of empowerment will grow, helping close Ghana's gender gap in STEM and building a generation of confident female leaders ready for the digital economy
