CODE HER FUTURE

We as a society are a sum total of the opportunities that we give to girls and women to prosper. Margnizalition and discrimination of girls through systemic cultural systems has been a serious practice in Kenya. Girls who come from low-income areas like the slums we serve in rarely get a chance to pursue their dreams to become what they wanted since childhood. This is because at the onset of the adolescent stage they are subjected to various abuses that reduce their chances of being able to pursue their dreams.

This project is slowly changing the narrative in Mathare slums and making more girls realize that their dreams are achievable and that through the safe space that we have provided at our ICT Center and Digital library their dreams can be midwifed into reality.

At the Ready Aiders ICT Center and Digital library, we teach young girls who have just cleared their form four exams skills in coding, website design, graphics design, and basic computer packages. This time round of the year we have admitted seven girls who are now currently moving from stage one (Basic Computer packages ) before they move to stage two which will begin with graphics design and end with coding. Many of the girls in the current cohort have dreams of starting to earn an income from what they learn as soon as they finish these classes.

During the morning hours, it is the girls who are part of the cohort team that uses the center, in the evening we turn the center into a digital library where the young girls from schools within the community and who are currently in primary school can come and read books online.

All these services both the girls using the digital library and those being taught coding get for free courtesy of the kindness of donors like you who through this GlobalGiving platform choose to make a difference and be the hope that is missing in the environment that we are in. On behalf of the girls, I say thank you , God bless you, and continue to do more.

Kind regards
