Code Her Future Kenya is not just about getting girls into technology and STEM -it's about equipping young vulnerable girls in Kenyan slums with the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to venture into and succeed in a previously male-dominated field. By delivering access to one-on-one and group lessons on coding, you'll help 100 vulnerable girls annually in Nairobi, Kenya, to complete their coding course and realize their full potential.
Generational poverty in Kenyan slums means that girls here experience social problems like difficulty accessing education and physical/mental health support, gender-based violence and abuse, child labor, and early marriages and pregnancies. As COVID compounds these challenges, including the comeback of harmful traditional practices like early forced marriages, the world quickly becomes a difficult place to navigate-but there is hope for the 600 girls who will benefit from this project.
Your gift directly impacts the young vulnerable girls in this program by providing a long-term, professional coding course and other digital skills like graphic design and digital marketing. Dedicated tutors will provide one-on-one and group lessons that counter the impacts of traditional myths and biases that push girls away from STEM-related courses and reduces the confidence of those already in STEM careers. When girls get educated in STEM-related courses, they develop the knowledge, confidence, and life skills necessary to navigate and adapt to our ever-changing world. They earn higher incomes, become active participants in the decisions that most affect them, and build better futures for themselves and their families. Educating girls also helps break intergenerational cycles of poverty and disadvantage, giving all people-including boys and men-opportunities to fulfill their potential.
