After evey monthly training we host there are atleast 2 new people who are interested in becoming entrepreneurs. Now this has created a slight shortage of second hand clothing to provide for our active entrepreneurs. We therefore have decided to run a massive drive for the Mandela day that happens annually to celebrate the former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela.
Nelson Mandela International Day was launched in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s birthday on 18 July, 2009 via unanimous decision of the UN General Assembly. It was inspired by a call Nelson Mandela made a year earlier, for the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices when he said that “it is in your hands now”. It is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It is a global movement to honour his life’s work and act to change the world for the better.
We are currently preparing to approach schools and universities to donate second hand clothing in honour of Mandela day, this is going to be a big drive which will benefit our active entrepreneurs as they will be able to buy from us each item of adult clothing for 10 zar or 69 cents in US dollars and 4 items of children's clothing for the same 10 zar. This also allows them to create their own bales with clothes that they know they will be able to sell.
We are very excited about this drive and really hope we will be able to collect lots of clothing items for our entrepreneurs.
