Thank you for your generous donation in September 2021, Giving Hope Foundation (GHF) successfully introduced the Climate Change adoption project in April 2022 in Kitoba sub-county, Hoima district, Uganda. The project has three components; 1) introducing Bamboo with a future plan for supporting rural households to start bamboo value-addition projects, 2) distributing Gasifier cookstoves that not only cook faster and save on cooking fuels, they also reduce households' exposure to indoor emissions and they make charcoal as a byproduct, and 3) making biochar from garden residues in order to help improve soils in the community

Bamboo: we are excited to report that all the 865 seedlings that were distributed have been growing steadily. The farmers are taking very good care of their bamboo and are excited for the future opportunities they will bring. The original target was to plant 1,200 seedlings, therefore our fundraising drive is still open for extra donations in order to realise this goal.

Gasifier stoves:  we distributed 20 gasifier stoves out of the original 100 targeted. The farmers have taken them on nicely, and they are all in constant use, especially during the dry season when they have more access to twigs and maize cobs.

Biochar:  after training farmers in making biochar and its uses, we have so far collected 276 kg that was made from agricultural residues during the recent dry season. We are looking forward to permanently return this carbon back into the soil, where it belongs.

Note: As an appreciation from the GHF and the community, we planted 11 Grevillea robusta trees for donations above $100.
