Provision of Clean water to the Children of Punjab

Access to safe drinking water remains a major challenge in rural Punjab. Many families, particularly women and children, depend on contaminated water sources, exposing them to preventable diseases such as diarrhea, hepatitis, and other waterborne illnesses. Children are especially vulnerable, often missing school due to recurring illnesses and suffering long-term health consequences, while mothers face additional burdens in caring for their families under these difficult conditions.

AWARD Pakistan has initiated the preparatory phase for the planned installation of Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment plants in Tehsil Samundri. While construction has not yet commenced, our team has carried out detailed consultations with community leaders and local families, assessed existing water sources, and identified the key challenges related to access to safe drinking water. These findings have highlighted the urgent need for intervention, as families continue to rely on unsafe water, placing children's health and well-being at constant risk.

Technical planning, site selection, and feasibility assessments are currently underway to ensure that the RO plants can be installed efficiently and sustainably once funding is secured. At the same time, hygiene promotion and safe water awareness sessions are being conducted to help communities adopt healthier practices and reduce the risks associated with contaminated water until the infrastructure is in place.
