Clean Water for Tafadek, Agadez Region, Niger

Our team remains actively engaged in the Agadez region of northern Niger, where we work in partnership with the local NGO Tidène.

Thanks to our first donors, the Tafadek project has received approximately €1,000. We are deeply grateful for this initial support. It has allowed us to continue local coordination and advance the preliminary preparation of the project. However, this amount is not yet sufficient to begin the main construction work.

Tafadek is a remote village where around 1,500 people still lack reliable access to safe drinking water. Families depend largely on open wells that are also used by animals, exposing the community—especially young children—to waterborne diseases. Women and children also spend considerable time collecting water.

The project plans to drill a solar-powered borehole, construct a water tower, install public fountains, and build latrines. These facilities will provide safer water, improve hygiene and reduce the burden of water collection. They will also give children more time for school and enable families to develop gardens and other livelihood activities.

It is currently the school holiday period in Tafadek. Many children are helping their families in the fields, looking after animals, or caring for younger brothers and sisters. When they have some free time, they enjoy playing football together. Their daily lives show how closely education, health, water access and family responsibilities are connected in this rural community.

Our local partners remain in contact with the community, which is ready to participate in the project and establish a water management committee. We are progressing step by step, but additional funding is urgently needed before drilling and construction can begin.

Every new donation will help us move closer to providing safe water and adequate sanitation for the people of Tafadek. We sincerely thank all our supporters for believing in this project and helping us take these important first steps.
