Only 42% of Iganga District residents access safe water (MWE 2023). SAP will install 30 community boreholes and water storage tanks, establish 60 Water & Sanitation Committees, and train 1,200 women in hygiene best practices. This will deliver clean water to 15,000 people, slash waterborne disease by 60%, and restore children's health and dignity
In Iganga, 58% of households walk over 3 km daily for water (UBOS 2024). Waterborne diseases - cholera, typhoid, dysentery - account for 34% of all outpatient visits (Iganga DHO 2023). Women and girls bear the burden; girls miss 4 school days monthly collecting water. Sanitation coverage stands at only 38%, driving open defecation and illness.
SAP installs 30 boreholes and distributes 100 water storage tanks across Iganga's underserved sub-counties. Sixty Water & Sanitation Committees (WSCs) are formed and trained in water system maintenance, hygiene promotion, and WASH best practices. Communities receive handwashing stations and soap, anchoring behaviour change at household level.
15,000 people gain reliable clean water within 1 km of home. Waterborne disease incidence falls by 60% within 2 years. Girls reclaim 4 school days monthly, improving attendance and performance. WSCs sustain infrastructure independently. Iganga's open defecation rate drops from 62% to under 15%, building a healthier, more productive district.
