Water is precious in Haiti. We conserve every drop but sometimes when it's hot and humid and spirits are low, a pool party is what lifts the spirits of the children and makes the day a good one!
Most children have access to a bathtub. So even when you cannot go to the pool, you can take a bath and pretend you are in an olympic size pool just floating in the water! But in Haiti, bathtubs are not common. The children do not know what it is to go under water and let it drip off their bodies to help them cool off in the summer heat.
Occasionally, we blow up our plastic pools and put some water in them and let the children play! They love laying back and just enjoying the coolness of the water running across their bodies. They play with their friends and make up games to play.
Yes, water is precious and we need it to drink and bath, but sometimes we just need to lay back and enjoy a few hours of cool, refreshing water to refresh our spirits and make us appreciate God's gift to us through the rain He sends...
