Haiti has a rainy season and a dry season. From April through October, during hurricane season is when we receive the most rain. It has rained every day for a couple of months now. As you can see from the photos, we have fog and rain and everything is damp right now. It is difficult to get clothes dry for the children.
At the orphanage, all of the buildings have gutters which collect the rain water and put it into cisterns. We pull from those cisterns for water to bath, cook, and clean. But for drinking water, we do not have a filter system that gets the water clean enough to drink. For drinking water, we have to go to the local water filter store. We take our water bottles and they fill them with filtered, drinkable water for us. Once a month, we change out our old water bottles for new ones since they are difficult to clean and sanitize.
Thank you so much for helping us buy clean drinking water for the children. Many people in Haiti do not have clean water and that is why there are locations where Typhoid is active. Families drink water from rivers and streams that are not clean. We are very thankful that you help make it possible for the children and babies at GLA have clean water to drink!
